About Our
Pellet Stoves
Pellet stoves are one of the most efficient and convenient ways to heat your home with a real flame. Unlike traditional wood burning stoves that require manual lighting and regular tending, pellet stoves are largely automated – they self-ignite, self-feed and can even be controlled from your smartphone.
If you love the look of a real fire but want something cleaner, lower maintenance and more consistent than a log burner, a pellet stove could be exactly what you are looking for.
At Fireplaces & Interiors of Kent we stock the MCZ pellet stove range – Italian-engineered appliances with a reputation for quality, reliability and outstanding flame visuals. We offer supply only or full supply and installation across Kent and the South East.
Pellet Stoves vs
Wood Burning Stoves
Pellet stoves suit you if you want:
- Automated operation – no manual lighting or constant log adding
- Lower particulate emissions – cleaner burning than log stoves
- Consistent heat output with programmable timers
- Smartphone app control (MCZ app compatible)
- A sustainable fuel source – wood pellets are a renewable energy
Wood burning stoves suit you if you want:
- A fully manual, traditional experience
- No dependence on electricity (pellet stoves require a power supply)
- Potentially lower fuel cost if you have access to cheap or free logs
- Simpler installation with no electrical requirements

What Are Wood Pellets?
Wood pellets are compressed sawdust cylinders, typically 6-8mm in diameter. They are a by-product of the timber industry, making them a sustainable and renewable fuel. Buying by the bag typically costs around £15, though this drops to under £10 per bag if you have the space to buy and store in bulk. A typical 8kW stove will use around 1.5-2kg per hour at medium output.
Pellets are available from most log and fuel suppliers and are widely available across Kent. They must be stored dry – most pellet stove owners keep a week’s supply indoors and buy in bulk to store in a dry outbuilding.

Quick answers to questions you may have
Do pellet stoves need a chimney?
Yes. Like solid fuel stoves, pellet stoves require either an existing chimney, a twin wall flue system or a purpose-built flue. We assess this as part of your free home survey.
Are pellet stoves suitable for smoke controlled areas?
Most MCZ pellet stoves are Defra approved and suitable for smoke controlled areas. We will confirm the status of your chosen model at the point of enquiry.
How often do I need to clean a pellet stove?
Most pellet stoves require a light clean every week or two during use and a more thorough clean at the end of the season. They produce very little ash compared to wood burning stoves.
Do pellet stoves need electricity?
Yes. Pellet stoves require a standard 240v power supply to run the automatic ignition, pellet feed auger and fan. Newer Core models from MCZ feature battery back-up, meaning they will continue to operate in the event of a power cut – older models will not.
Can I control a pellet stove remotely?
Yes. All MCZ stoves are compatible with the MCZ smartphone app, allowing you to control temperature, set timers and monitor your stove from anywhere. Some models are also compatible with an external room thermostat (sold separately) for automatic temperature management.
How much do pellet stoves cost to run?
Running costs depend on your stove model and heat output setting. As a guide, most 6-8kW stoves use 1.5-2kg of pellets per hour at medium output. Buying pellets by the bag typically costs around £1 per kg, putting running costs at roughly £1.50 to £2 per hour at medium output – though this will be noticeably less when running at a lower setting to take the chill off a room. Bulk buying pellets can reduce this significantly if you’re using the stove as a primary heat source.
